As a constant companion to human beings throughout the ages, the rabbit has represented almost every human aspiration, ranging from the fear of life to the desire for eternal life, from sexual appetite to chastity, from cunning trickster to childhood pet. Representations of rabbits are as varied and contradictory as human nature. The rabbit and the moon have been consorts since antiquity in almost all of the world’s civilizations. The essence of the rabbit is “conatus", the will to live.
