Archive: Introduction
This group of diverse projects includes painting, sculpture, multimedia performance and works on paper. This selection of works spans the mid 80’s through 2009. During these years the demands of projects such as “33 Swoonings”, “Protean Bodies”, “Sewings Songs” and “Precise Breathing” led me to work in a wide range of materials. Learning to work with new mediums as well as the attendant research holds a deep pleasure for me and draws me into new worlds. Included as well are several documentary works. Though only briefly documented here, the time I have spent in West Africa, especially in Ivory Coast, and documenting the Guro Masquerades, has been an indelible stream running through my belief in the transformative power of art.
